The Big Two Mattress Makers
Both Simmons and the Sealy company have been manufacturing high quality sleep systems for over a century and should be on your short list if you are looking to buy a new mattress.
Simmons
The Simmons World Class Beautyrest is one of the most well known and trusted brand names in America today. Beginning in 1870 the Simmons Company quickly began to emerge into a leader in the mattress industry. With novel research and increased technology spending they began to expect more and more from every new mattress they designed.
By the 1920’s Simmons was a common household name and was being endorsed by such notables as H.G. Wells, Eleanor Roosevelt and Thomas Edison. In the 1940’s Simmons turned to Hollywood stars to pitch their products.
Simmons beds take great pride on continuing to offer many mattress choices to the consumer. One market they helped create is in the size of the mattresses offered for sale. In 1958, Simons introduced the queen and king size model mattress to an eager public. In 2001 they unveiled the Olympic queen size bed which boasts ten percent more sleeping area than a standard queen mattress while fitting in a standard queen size frame.
Today, Simmons offers a mattress product for everyone. From high quality crib mattresses and bed sets designed for children to the top of the line Simmons Beautyrest plush mattress in four levels of quality: Classic, World Class, Exceptionale, and World Class Exceptionale there is a Simons mattress made just for you.
In addition to their traditional innerspring sleep sets Simmons also makes the Beautyrest Caresse which is a memory foam product similar to the Temperpedic and the Lux Aire that is an air filled system like the Select Comfort. Lest waterbed lovers feel left out they also make the Natural Spring soft sided waterbed.
Sealy
In 1881, Daniel Haynes began building and selling mattresses to all of his friends and neighbors in the town of Sealy, Texas. His mattresses became so popular that he soon began to take orders from all over the country and folks started calling them the mattress from Sealy hence the name Sealy Mattress. To help take care of growing demand he sold his technology to other mattress makers that would create the product but keep the Sealy name on them. In 906 Haynes sold his business to a company that kept the name Sealy to this day.
In 1950 Sealy introduced their most famous model – the Posturpedic. The Sealy Posturpedic mattress would go on to become one of the most well known mattresses in history and is still enormously popular today. Using a patented coil system made of heavy gauge steel that is double heat tempered the Sealy Posturpedic can be found in millions of bedrooms around the world. In keeping with Sealy’s tradition of innovation they also offer the True Form memory foam mattress and the Spring Free model that has a pure latex foam core.
With the addition of the Basset and Stearns and Foster Sealy now has the largest market of the bedding market in North America today.
Of course, Simmons and Sealy are not your only choices for high quality mattresses but if you desire consistently high standards and a name you can trust you will be satisfied with either of these two brands.
