Space Saving Bed Options

In today’s fast paced world the familiar bedroom has become more that just a place to get your beauty sleep. Since most bedrooms are smaller than other rooms in a house some have turned to bunk, loft and Murphy beds to store your mattress without giving up precious living space.

Loft beds are an increasingly popular choice for children’s rooms and modern college dorm rooms. With a loft bed the mattress sits on a platform that is raised several feet off the floor. This arrangement provides extra work, space or storage space where there once would have been just a bed. As loft beds increase in popularity so have the options available such as a built-in futon as the bottom layer which is handy when additional seating is necessary during the day while converting into a mattress for extra sleeping space at night when needed.

Another popular option on some loft bed models is a built-in desk or computer station. For teens and college students this extra study space is a very valuable and welcome addition. Some manufacturers also include a built-in dresser beneath the bed for clothes which is a great way to utilize what would have been wasted space.

The Mercedes of the loft bed is the all in one model boasting a twin or full size bed up top with a wardrobe for hanging clothes, a desk, drawers for folded clothes and even a trundle bed for extra sleeping space.

Most homes today have three bedrooms but if you have more than two kids someone has to share a bedroom. A larger bedroom can sometimes hold two beds but when space is tight the good old bunk beds comes to the rescue. With models that offer many mattress configurations it’s easy to accommodate extra sleeping arrangements without having to add onto the house. Some manufacturers even offer triple bunk beds with three beds stacked one on top of each other.

A less popular option for small spaces is the Murphy bed. Murphy beds allow a mattress to be folded up inside a wall or cabinet where it waits until needed. Murphy beds were very popular in the past and are most known for comedy routines that had characters accidentally folded up inside the wall along with their mattress. This is very likely to happen since most models lock into place when opened and closed. Available in both wall and cabinet models there is probably one that will meet your needs.
